Rosella Namok
Brief Biography
Rosella Namok was born in May 1979. She comes from the Kanthanampu and Aangkum language group. Rosella Namok was one of the original ART GANG members and is a current artist member with Lockhart River Arts Indigenous Corporation. Her arts career started in late 1990’s through solo and group exhibitions both within Australia and Internationally. Rosella Namok is a naturally talented and gifted artist and this is evident in her family bloodline. She is the daughter of another leading Lockhart River artist Irene Namok.
Rosella Namok has exhibited in both solo and group exhibitions in Hobart Tasmania, Sydney, Melbourne, Warrnambool Victoria, Brisbane, Adelaide, Cape York in Queensland, Canberra including the Parliament House and National Art Gallery, Cairns, Cooktown Queensland, Perth, Darwin, Townsville, Alice Springs Northern Territory, London UK, Lubljana Slovenia, Noumea New Caledonia, Sammlunge Essl Austria, Ludwig Erhard Haus Germany, Brittany France, Australian Embassy Paris France, Ewha University in Seoul South Korea, Spoletto Italy, Houston Texas USA, Columbus State University, Georgia USA, and Virginia USA.
From 3 June 2018 to 28 October 2018, Rosella’s works will be exhibited in a permanent collection at Foundation Burkhardt-Felder et Culture Musee de l’art aboriegene australien “La grange” in Switzerland. The exhibition in Switzerland will include paintings from other Lockhart River artists, Silas Hobson, Irene Namok, Patrick Butcher and Fiona Omeenyo and is titled “Islands in the sea”.
Artist Statement:
“I paint about my Country and people around me. I paint about traditional culture and stories in my own style. I paint about things that happen, things we do, the weather and about how our people live”. I enjoy my art”. - Rosella Namok
